I've spent almost two decades on the other side of the hiring desk as an External Recruiter and Director of Recruiting in deep-tech. I've reviewed tens of thousands of resumes. I've sat in the meetings where qualified people are rejected without ever getting an interview. I know why people get hired and why they don't, because I've watched it happen from the inside.
Almost two decades in recruiting across deep-tech, Robotics, Drones, Unmanned Systems, and beyond. External Recruiter to Director of Recruiting. I've written the intake templates, sat in the meetings, and hired across engineering, operations, sales, and the C-suite. I know how the hiring machine thinks because I've run it from the inside.
When I look at your search, I'm not reading vibes, I'm reconciling the data. Response rates, where applications stall, what each activity in your search is actually producing. Nothing gets decided on a hunch, it gets decided on what the numbers show. Your search is a business problem with real inputs and outputs, and I treat it like one until it produces the offer you're after.
Most people helping you don't have much more hiring experience than you do, so they're guessing at the same things you are. Almost two decades on the hiring side means I've seen the pattern before, even when it's showing up in your search for the first time.
The moment I knew I had to create The Work Life Upgrade was when I watched a family member struggle with something that I was very good at doing.
He retired after a full military career. Stellar record. Real leadership. The kind of background that should have opened doors. He'd gone through TAP, done all the things you're supposed to do. Yet he didn't know how to write a resume a civilian employer could read. Didn't know how to answer interview questions in a language that landed outside the military. In the civilian world, decision-makers aren't always the ones on the org chart. The mail clerk may be the CEO's nephew.
None of that was a failure on his part. Nobody had taught him. The system he'd spent his career in was completely fluent in its own language and completely silent about everyone else's.
I'd spent my career on the other side of that table. I knew exactly what civilian hiring managers needed to hear and why his story wasn't landing. And I couldn't do anything about it through my recruiting work because my clients weren't looking for his skillset.
That gap, between what I knew and what people like him needed, is why The Work Life Upgrade is here.
What I do isn't coaching in the way that word usually gets used. I don't sit with you while you process feelings about your career. There are coaches who believe you have the answers inside you and just need the right questions to find your deeper purpose. There are coaches who hand you a step-by-step system and tell you to trust the process. I'm neither. I'm a been-there-done-that advisor who gives you actionable, tactical, proven guidance to help you reach your goals faster.
If you've done everything you know to do, followed all the advice, let ChatGPT rewrite your resume, and it's still not working, you're in the right place.

A Principle
"I care about outcomes, not processes. If the process isn't producing the outcome, the process is wrong."
Nine questions. Two minutes. A starting point, not a sales call.
